For this project, I worked with Mediajungle on bringing one of their existing characters to life in 3D. My task was to take an already-established 2D character and faithfully translate it into a fully rigged and animated 3D model, staying true to the original design while adding depth, personality, and movement.
This project challenged me to balance technical precision with artistic creativity. Recreating an existing character meant every decision had to respect the original vision, from the proportions and textures to the way the character moves and expresses emotion. Getting that right required a deep understanding of both the mechanical side of rigging and how the rig would support the character's personality in animation.
Throughout the process, I developed skills in advanced rigging, character animation, and attention to detail, particularly in the subtleties that make a character feel alive, such as eye movement, weight, and body language. I also learned how to communicate and align with a client's creative expectations, translating their existing 2D identity into a new dimension without losing what made the character recognizable in the first place.
I made the escape room last year. Since February, I have been working with my project team: Sijb, Hylke, Marijn, and Lorenzo on a meaningful assignment for the Municipality of Leeuwarden.
Our task was to develop a digital escape room prototype designed to engage children and raise awareness about energy-saving practices. The goal was not only to inform the young audience but also to empower them to inspire and educate their parents on the importance of sustainability in daily life.
This project challenged us to balance creative game design with educational value, resulting in an interactive experience that is both fun and informative. As a team, we collaborated closely from concept to prototype, using tools like Blender and other design software to bring the digital environment to life. Throughout the project, I developed both technical and organizational skills, from managing the workflow and communicating with stakeholders, to translating abstract educational goals into engaging gameplay. This portfolio showcases the growth I experienced while contributing to a real-world project that aims to make a positive impact.
This project is a custom 3D pipeline tool that I built for myself and Sijb to create a more structured, organized, and efficient workflow when working in Blender and related software. We noticed that our projects were becoming increasingly complex, with many files, versions, assets, and exports scattered across folders. This made it harder to stay organized and slowed down our production process.
The goal of this tool was to streamline how we manage projects, automate repetitive steps, and enforce a clear folder and naming structure. By creating a dedicated pipeline, we were able to reduce mistakes, save time, and keep our projects consistent and clean. It also helped us work more professionally, similar to how pipelines are used in real production environments.
Building this tool was challenging and required a lot of problem-solving. I had to think logically about workflows, user interaction, file management, and edge cases. It took a significant amount of time and iteration to get everything working properly. There were many moments where things broke or behaved unexpectedly, which forced me to debug carefully and rethink parts of the system.
Through this project, I learned how important structure and automation are in creative pipelines. I gained a better understanding of how tools can support artists instead of slowing them down. I also improved my technical thinking, planning skills, and ability to translate practical needs into functional systems.
Although I am very happy with the end result, I am also aware that the tool could be improved a lot further. There are many features that could be expanded, optimized, or made more user-friendly. However, this project represents a strong learning milestone for me, and it gave me confidence in building tools that actively improve production workflows while continuing to learn and grow.
